The NHS App allows you to manage many aspects of your healthcare in one place, including services provided by both your GP surgery and hospitals.
You can use it to:
The NHS App brings together referral information from the NHS e-Referral Service and appointment information supplied by connected hospital patient portals.
The hospital information available will depend on the NHS organisation providing your care and the systems it uses.
The NHS App gives you access to information held in your GP health record.
This can include:
The information you can see will depend on the access available for your record. NHS England confirms that patients can view new information from their GP health record through sections including prescriptions, appointments, test results, health conditions and documents.
You may be able to see some GP and hospital-requested test results through the NHS App.
Please be aware that in some circumstances a result may become visible before a doctor or nurse has spoken to you about it. If you're concerned about a result, please contact the organisation that requested your test.
The NHS App is also increasingly used by NHS services to send you information about your care.
We recommend turning on notifications for the NHS App so that you can see when you have received a new message.
The messages available depend on the services used by your GP surgery and other healthcare providers.
You may be able to use proxy access to help another person manage aspects of their healthcare.
This can be useful for parents, carers or people supporting someone else with their healthcare.
Where proxy access has been set up, the person providing support can use their own NHS App to carry out permitted tasks on the patient's behalf. NHS England describes this as family and carer access and says it can be used for tasks such as ordering repeat prescriptions, booking appointments or checking test results.
Contact the surgery if you need help setting up appropriate proxy access.
You don't have to use a smartphone.
You can access NHS App services through a web browser using your NHS account.
Patient Access is still available, and existing users can continue to use it.
However, we recommend using the NHS App as your main way of accessing more NHS services.
You can also request access to your Detailed Coded Record which allows further access to your medical record online. This requires another form to be completed for this level of access. These requests for further access will be considered on a case by case basis by your GP. If access is agreed, this can then take up to 30 days to be added to your Patient Access account. There is an information leaflet available at reception regarding accessing records online.
The Detailed Coded Record Access forms are available at reception
This further access includes:
You can download the NHS App from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. If you do not have a smartphone or tablet, you can access the same services through the NHS website using a computer.
To create your NHS account, you will need:
You will be sent security codes to confirm your email address and telephone number.
To access personal information such as your health record, prescriptions, test results, referrals and appointments, you will also need to confirm your identity. You can usually do this in the app using an accepted form of photo identification and a face scan or video.
Accepted identification includes:
Some expired identification may be accepted if it expired less than 12 months ago.
You can still get full access to the NHS App without photo identification. You may be able to verify your identity using registration details provided by the surgery, including a Linkage Key, Organisation Code and Account ID. Please contact the surgery if you need these details.
If you require help, please check the Help with the NHS App page.
If you are still experiencing issues with registering your details or accessing the NHS App following registration, please contact the practice.
