Frequently asked questions

Select a question to see the answer.

What is Anima?

Anima is the practice's new online consultation and triage system. It helps us gather the right information from the start so we can direct you to the most appropriate member of the team.

Why is the practice moving to Anima?

The new system provides more detailed information, improves patient routing, integrates with our document management systems, and helps ensure patients receive the right care from the right person first time.

How do I contact the practice using Anima?

You will complete an online form describing your problem or request. The system will then ask additional questions relevant to your situation.

Why am I being asked so many questions?

The questions help clinicians understand your problem before reviewing your request. This often reduces delays and helps us make safer, more informed decisions. More information at the start helps us provide the right care more quickly.

What happens after I submit a form?

You will receive confirmation that your request has been received. Depending on your needs, you may receive:

• A self-booking link for an appointment

• A telephone call from the practice

• A request for more information

• An administrative response for non-clinical requests

Can I still telephone the surgery?

Yes. However, all clinical requests will follow the same Anima process. Where possible, patients will be encouraged to complete the form themselves, but staff can assist patients who genuinely cannot complete it.

What if I am not confident using technology?

We understand that some patients need support. Our team can help patients who genuinely struggle to complete online forms and can guide patients through the process where needed.

Can I come into reception for help?

Yes. Reception staff can help patients who need assistance accessing or completing an Anima request.

Will I still be able to get a same-day appointment?

If a clinician decides your condition needs assessment on the same day, you will be offered a same-day appointment. Not all requests require same-day appointments and many problems can be managed safely within a different timeframe.

Why can't I always choose a more convenient same-day appointment?

Urgent appointments are reserved for patients who need assessment that day. Offering these appointments promptly helps us maintain safe capacity for urgent clinical problems.

How will I know what is happening with my request?

You will receive updates throughout the process so you know your request has been received and what the next steps are.

Will AI be making decisions about my care?

No. Anima can help organise information and provide summaries, but clinical decisions are made by appropriately trained healthcare professionals.

Who will see the information I submit?

Information submitted through Anima is reviewed by appropriate members of the practice team involved in managing your care or request.

Do I need the NHS App to use Anima?

No. However, the NHS App provides a convenient way to receive messages, view results and access other NHS services, so we encourage patients to use it where possible.

Can I order repeat prescriptions through Anima?

Patients should continue to request repeat medication through the NHS App, email or by delivering a slip to reception.

Why is the practice promoting the NHS App?

The NHS App makes it easier to access NHS services in one place. You can use it to:

• Order repeat prescriptions

• View test results

• Receive messages from the practice

• See information about referrals and hospital appointments

• Access services without needing to telephone the surgery as often

It also helps us reduce unnecessary NHS costs.

Sending SMS text messages costs the NHS money. Last year, SMS messaging across BNSSG cost more than £1 million. Messages sent through the NHS App can reduce the number of chargeable text messages we need to send.

By downloading the NHS App and turning on notifications, you can receive messages conveniently while helping the NHS make better use of its resources.

What if I need a letter, insurance form or other administrative request?

These requests can still be made and will be directed to the appropriate administrative team for processing.

Using Anima

Anima is available Monday to Friday 08:00 until 18:30 for routine requests including:

  • Medical queries
  • Nurse appointments
  • Blood test appointments
  • Administrative requests

Urgent requests can be submitted online until 1pm. After this time, please telephone the surgery for urgent same-day concerns.

Please do not submit duplicate requests, as this can delay triage and patient care.

Anima and the NHS App - what is the difference?

Anima and the NHS App are two separate systems and each serves a different purpose, but we understand that from the patient’s point of view they can appear to be related.
