Flu Services

Flu vaccination provides the best protection against an unpredictable virus which infects many people and can cause serious illness and death each year.

This year there are two vaccines, one for the over 65s and a different one for the under 65s.

We have been asked to prioritise those patients who are most at risk.

More information about Flu can be found here.

Flu 2020 – The Milton Surgery

This year we have to factor in social distancing into our flu vaccination schedule and so we are introducing new systems to keep everyone safe.
Everyone eligible needs to pre-book one of the following options from 21st September onwards:
Saturday clinics
At present we have arranged 2 Saturday flu clinics for adults:

Saturday 17th October 2020
9:00 – 15:00 adults 65yrs and over (including anyone who will be 65 by the 31st March 2021)

Saturday 7th November 2020
9:00 –15:00 – Patients at risk over 18yrs old and under 65yrs

The Saturday flu clinics will be managed differently due to social distancing and we welcome your help to manage this.  Please arrive at your specific appointment time and follow the signs and staff member’s instructions. If you arrive late for your appointment you will be asked to rebook.

There will be a one way system in place please follow the directions from staff and signs.

Anyone arriving for the flu clinic needs to be appropriately dressed to enable an efficient service. You will need your chosen arm ready for ease of access.

All patients need to wear a face covering or mask or they will not be seen.

Clinical staff will not be able deal with any other medical issues you may have, timings of these appointments are extremely limited.

There is a possibility the dates above may change due to delivery of stock. We will be in contact with you if anything changes.
How to book:
If you are eligible:
Contact us through AskMyGP to book your flu vaccination to ensure that reception are able to deal with the requests promptly and ensure you are booked into the correct clinic.

If you are aged 50-64:
If you do not have a long term condition, you shall only become eligible later in the season. We will text you when further details are announced, so please let us know if you recently changed your mobile number and provide consent to text messaging if not already given.
How to decline:
If you don’t want a flu vaccine at all please let us know via AskMyGP or our dedicated flu phone line. This year more than ever, this is very important as vaccines supplies are expected to be in extremely high demand.
Home visits are available - for medically housebound patients only.
We shall continue to offer essential home visits for very frail patients to have their flu vaccinations at home and for those living in care homes.

Home visits are more risky for the staff and patients so wherever possible patients should attend the surgery.

Home visit slots are very limited and so are strictly reserved only for those who physically couldn’t get into a car to attend an appointment with help from a friend, family or a taxi.
Children will be contacted with an appointment slot.
Child aged 2 and 3 and those under the age of 18 at risk will be given a date and time slot to attend. If you can’t make the appointment given please contact us as above.

If your child is eligible to have a vaccination at school, but not otherwise in another at risk group, they should have their vaccine at school, not at the Doctors surgery.
