Support team:
Practice
Manager
Peter Harrison
Peter is responsible for the efficient administration of the practice. If you have any
suggestions or problems, please do not hesitate to contact him at the surgery.
Receptionists and medical secretarial support team
Our staff are all fully trained.
Their job is to help you, and to ensure that the doctor can see you with as
few interruptions as possible. Their work is very demanding and stressful. Please
be patient if you have to wait a few minutes at the reception desk or for the
telephone to be answered.
Practice Nurses and Health Care Assistant
We have three practice
nurses. In addition to providing general nursing advice, they also perform, smear tests, ear syringing and childhood immunisations
etc.
The nurses and our HCA also run a variety of health promotion clinics including: chronic heart disease, weight reduction,
dietary advice, stop smoking, diabetes, blood pressure, respiratory asthma, perform blood pressure checks and take samples for lab checks.
Please ask reception if you would like to attend one of these clinics.
If the nurse/HCA detects a problem at a clinic they will liaise with a doctor. Our nurses can also give advice on foreign travel as well as administering the necessary vaccinations with the exception of yellow fever. A charge is made for some travel vaccinations.
The practice nurses are supported by a health care assistant who undertakes dressings, blood pressure checks and blood tests.
District Nurses
Our team of district nurses is led
by a district nursing sister. They provide general nursing care such as injections,
dressings, bathing and advice on all medical matters for housebound patients unable
to attend the surgery. They can be contacted through Care Connect on 01934 888801 between 8am and 6pm.
Health Visitors
We have two health visitors who deal with a variety of health
problems, with particular emphasis on health promotion and preventative medicine. They work with the doctors in
the child health clinics and provide postnatal care. They also give advice to the elderly and handicapped. Their
telephone number is 529164.
Midwife
The midwife runs our antenatal clinics
and looks after the mother before and just after the baby is born. Appointments
for the midwife are made at reception.
Training New Doctors
The surgery qualified as a fully fledged training practice from
August 2006. Our first GP Registrar (a doctor undergoing vocational training as a GP was Dr Penny Edrich), our second was DR Chris Chubb. Both enjoyed being here so much, they stayed on as fully qualified GP's.
The practice train and support a registrar for a year or so, as they find out in real life what actually happens in a GP surgery. In 2010 we plan to expand to take on two registrars.
The practice also assists with the training of medical students, and from time to time other healthcare profesisonals may
sit in at consultations as part of their training, subject to the prior approval of the patient.
